At Cheval Magique we see riding as an artform, and practise it in conjunction with other artforms, including music, theatre and dance. We are radically non-competitive: instead of mindlessly measuring who jumps the highest or runs the fastest, we are only interested in the quest for beauty, a fascinating challenge taken up enthusiastically by people of varying abilities and aspirations. Cheval Magique is the outcome of twenty years’ work restoring a magnificent farmhouse in the foothills of the French Pyrenees, and clearing forty acres of land left to abandon for half a century. The place is run as a centre offering made-to-measure language and riding courses, in partnership with a team of excellent riding instructors and other equestrian specialists. We also raise beautiful palomino, cream and champagne horses. The centre has a large conference room, a gîte with two double bedrooms, a roundpen, and a covered manège. Accommodation options include the on-site gîte, bed and breakfast at local farms, an upmarket campsite in the village, and hotels of every category within a few miles’ radius.
